VANCOUVER, BC – Storm Brewing has announced that a large and popular mural painted on the exterior wall of its building more than a decade ago may soon be painted over.
According to posts published last night on Facebook and Instagram, the brewery was recently “notified by the city that [the mural] is violating bylaws and must be removed,” and customers are invited to “come down to Storm over the next month to take one more photo with pals or selfie with this iconic part of our brewery’s history.”
A later comment on the post noted that Storm was “informed there were several mural/sign bylaws we are in violation of, including the size of the name of our business and ‘advertising’ by having beer/ beer production displayed on the mural.”
Subsequent to Storm’s announcement, two Vancouver city councilors – Sarah Kirby-Yung and Peter Meiszner – have expressed their support for the brewery on social media, and both are looking into the issue to see if order to remove the mural can be overturned.
